Roger Federer advances to the US Open round two after he made a thin escape against Frances Tiafoe. It was a thrilling match between the two where the veteran, Roger Federer, clinched the victory in the final set.
Roger Federer is a 19-time Grand Slam Champion. He outplayed Frances Tiafoe in the first round of the US Open in a complete thriller. His scores against the 70th-ranked Tiafoe read 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Also, with this, his confidence reached new heights in winning the tournament. As a result of this win, Federer moves to the second round of the tournament. He returned from a severe back injury and little preparations for the match.
Roger Federer, after his victory, said:
“I think this is going to give me a lot of confidence. It’s important to go through all of these emotional roller coasters early. That pressure is not fun but it’s what you have to go through.”
Furthermore, in regards to his back injury, he said:
“I was worried in the beginning from my back issue from a couple weeks ago but I loosened up. It’s only going to get better from here.”
“To get through a five-set match you’ve got to be healthy. I believe this is going to give me great confidence in my game and my body.”
The Swiss will now meet either Mikhail Youzhny or Blaz Kavcic in the second round. He is 16-0 up against Youzhny and 1-0 up against Kavcic.
