On last Monday, IPL 2019 witnessed its first controversy with Ravichandran Ashwin ‘mankading’ Rajasthan Royals(RR) batsman Jos Buttler. On the very next day, MCC has given its verdict on the controversy. While many cricket fans and analysts felt Ashwin’s act was against the game’s spirit. MCC has declared Buttler’s dismissal was as per game rules and laws.
According to law 41.16 “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground from the moment the ball comes into play to the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the bowler is permitted to attempt to run him/her out.”
It brought severe heat from various platforms of social media. However the next day, the officials of MCC have reviewed the situation and clarified that KingsXI Punjab captain seemingly waited too long to Mankad Buttler. Some felt that Ashwin delayed his action to allow Jos Buttler to leave his ground.
So twitter got divided with Ravi Ashwin’s controversial act. Some of them are supporting this southpaw, and some of them criticizing for his selfless act.
Here are some of the tweets posted on the “Mankad” issue.
Aussie legend Shane warne severly criticized Ashwin for his act.
While speaking to the scribes, Indian cricket legend “The Wall” Rahul Dravid spoke in support of Ravichandran Ashwin.
“It’s within the laws of the game and that’s pretty clear. So I don’t have a problem with someone deciding to do it. Ashwin was well within his rights to do what he did. However, personally, I would prefer it if somebody warns someone first. That would be my personal choice, but I respect someone’s view to think differently. I might not agree with it necessarily, but I would just have to agree to disagree whether someone should run someone out without warning him,” said Rahul Dravid.
But on Wednesday, this Mankad issue was a talking point during the KKR vs. KXIP match here at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. During KXIP innings, Mayank Agarwal was seen standing outside the non-striker’s end.
Now it remained as highly debatable topic from past few hours which divided the entire cricket nation all around the world.
