England’s midfielder, Dele Alli has clarified his middle finger gesture. He claims that the middle finger gesture was not meant for the referee. The camera caught him while he made a middle finger gesture. However, according to Dele Alli, it was just a joke, and he did not mean any harm to anyone.
Alli insisted that the middle finger gesture was for his friend, Kyle walker and not for the match referee. The incident took place during Englands 2-1 win over Slovakia.
Dele Alli could find himself in serious trouble as a breach of disciplinary action because it looked like the gesture was towards the match referee. England defeated Slovakia 2-1 in the World Cup Qualifying round.
In a conference, Gareth Southgate clarified that the indication was towards his former Tottenham team-mate, Kyle Walker. Alli took to Twitter to second Gareth Southgate’s statement. He tweeted the following:
“Just to clarify, the gesture tonight was a joke between me and my good friend Kyle Walker! Apologies for any offence caused! Great win 2nite.”
With that, it is clear that it was just a friendly joke between two people. England defeated Slovakia 2-1 with Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford’s goals. Now they have two games to go in their Group F matches.
